HPP Newsletter - February 2021
Dear HSRA Property Owner,
Greetings from beautiful Hermanus, where we are experiencing the beginnings of lovely autumn weather. How time flies! Before we know it, Easter will be here.
This time round I am starting off with ‘sad’ news.
Resignation from the Board
Barry van Vuren decided to step down as a director of the HPP-Board. His own business responsibilities require more attention and following a non-COVID related health scare in January, he decided to scale back on some of the time-consuming community involvement.
Barry will be remembered as the ‘architect’ of the New HPP and for his tremendous contribution in the Operations Director role. We are going to miss his humour, and his enormous capacity to get things done. Luckily, we know that Barry is only a phone call away should we want to use him as a sounding board.
Going forward, Hennie Niemand will work closely with our main suppliers (FADT, Iphupha Cleaning Services and Whale Coast Computers), with a dual reporting line to Anton Hartman (Director External Relations and Operations Support) and Tobie Louw (Director Finance and Strategy).
Appointment of Security Strategy Advisor
It gives me pleasure to announce that Theunis Coetzee, a semi-retired Voelklip resident, will join the HPP team in an advisory capacity.
Working for G4S (G4 Security), Theunis held Chief Operating Officer, Managing Director and CEO roles in locations such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Mauritius and Abu Dhabi.
Theunis will work closely with Anton Hartman, spearhead the formation of an Advisory Team, and lead the CCTV integration effort. The latter refers to the integration of the SAPS, Law Enforcement (Overstrand Municipality) and HPP networks, the primary aim of which is to avoid duplication and in so doing achieve optimal coverage of the Greater Hermanus.
HPP Surveillance Strategy
Whereas the initial focus was to expand our CCTV footprint throughout the Hermanus Special Rating Area (HSRA) and to upgrade our infrastructure, our strategic view of what the future requires is taking shape.
We shall share with you a high-level overview of HPP’s surveillance strategy by 31 March 2021.
HPP Reporting
Following a request for input in our January newsletter, Keith Kenyon (a Northcliff resident) volunteered his support in helping us interrogate HPP statistics to identify possible trends. A trend-analysis could, amongst others, help us to deploy our resources better, which in turn could result in greater efficiencies and cost-savings.
Liaison with Other SRAs
The process to establish an Overstrand SRA Forum (comprising the HSRA, the Onrus | Vermont SRA and the Kleinmond SRA) has commenced. This initiative forms part of HPP’s strategy to facilitate collaboration that will result in effective crime prevention across the municipal area.
Anton Hartman will drive this process.
Board Meeting
We held our first 2021 Board meeting via Zoom on Wednesday, 10 February. The minutes of this meeting are available on the HPP website (HPP NPC Board Minutes).
Our next formal meeting will be held before end of April 2021.
HSRA Quarterly Review Meeting
At HPP’s request, Tobie and I will meet quarterly with the Municipal Manager (Mr Dean O’Neill) and the Chief Financial Officer (Mrs Santie Reyneke-Naude).
The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the performance of HPP as the appointed management body of the HSRA, to raise issues of concern and to agree on actions to resolve issues.
Our first meeting is scheduled for 24 March 2021.
Friendly Reminder
Please remember to notify HPP when:
- Your e-mail address changes
- Your mobile number changes

You can do the above by sending an e-mail to manager@hpp.org.za
Condolences
The HPP Board would like to extend its sincere condolences to members of our community who have lost loved ones due to COVID (or any other reason for that matter).
Until next time, kind regards,
Errol van Staden
